About

The anthropological question of doing research should gear toward the duty of giving back to the subject and society at large. Knowledge should serve an instrumental purpose. Prashant believes that education is a medium of social liberation and transformation in society. Intellectuals have a very important role in this regard, he thinks.

His research is oriented towards understanding the marginality of the Dalits, Adivasis and the depressed classes in general, and on caste conflict, cultural capital and exclusion of Dalits, seasonal migration, discrimination of tribal women, and vulnerability of tribes in particular.

He was the in-charge of the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSE&IP) at Gokhale. The findings of some studies were used for advocacy on important issues related to the empowerment of the marginalised groups.
