B.Sc Economics (4-year) Programme:( Academic Year 2026-27)

The B.Sc. (Economics) programme at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) offers a rigorous undergraduate education rounded in economic theory, quantitative methods, data analytics, and applied policy analysis. This NEP 2020-compliant programme is designed with a progressive structure that builds strong analytical depth, empirical competence, and interdisciplinary understanding of economic and social issues. The curriculum of this programme covers core areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, mathematical economics, and econometrics. Alongside, students are exposed to accounting, finance, sociology, economic geography, database management systems, and communication skills, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation.

The distinctive feature of the programme is its strong quantitative and data-oriented focus. From the early semesters, students receive hands-on training in statistical and econometric tools using STATA/SPSS, R, Python, spreadsheets, and database management systems. Advanced courses in multivariate analysis, business analytics, and panel data and time-series econometrics, along with analytics-based project work, prepare students to engage with real-world datasets and policy-relevant questions. The four-year undergraduate structure offers flexible academic pathways, including Honours and Honours with Research, supported by internships, supervised research, and project- based learning. An outcome-based, student-centric pedagogy emphasises critical thinking, problem- solving, teamwork, and effective communication, preparing graduates for higher studies, research, competitive examinations, and diverse careers in policy, finance, analytics, consulting, and the development sector.

Students pursuing B.Sc. Economics with research will be engaged in a specialised course which includes Research Methodology, Research Design and Sampling, Research Ethics and Qualitative Research. It will help them be ready to pursue a PhD in their respective domain. The same is also supported by a 12-credit undergraduate research dissertation.
