MSc Economics (International Business Economics & Finance)

This new programme to be offered from the academic year 2016-17 is a unique course designed for careers in international trade, foreign portfolio investment, foreign direct investment, international technical/financial collaboration and joint ventures, international finance and portfolio management, etc. In addition to the learning of advanced economic theory and its applications, the curricular structure of the programme is designed to provide critical learning in the domain of international trade policy, practices and regulations, international corporate finance, international economic institutions, etc.

In addition the Institute is also likely to conduct some workshops on the topics related to International Trade and Finance as add-on-benefits . The following workshops are generally conducted:

1) Financial modelling and Computational Finance
2) Trade Data Analysis
3) Fundamental Linkages of International Finance & Capital Markets

Please note the Institute deserves the right to decide the exact time line (semester wise) to offer the workshops and even not to offer the same under some unavoidable circumstances. Once offered they are compulsory for IBE&F students and certificates (if issued) will be given only after successful completion.

Returning to GIPE for my MSc Economics was a deliberate choice, informed by my rewarding experience as a BSc Economics student. The faculty’s dedication to fostering a deep understanding of economic principles was a significant factor in my decision.

The program’s strength lies in its ability to build a solid foundation in core economic concepts. While subjects like statistics, econometrics, and financial econometrics are inherently demanding, the professors’ clear and structured approach made these subjects accessible. I particularly recall the challenge of mastering time series analysis, which, through their guidance, became a manageable and insightful area of study.

The curriculum with specialization in International Business Economics and Finance effectively bridges theoretical knowledge with practical applications in finance and international business. This has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of global economic dynamics and equipped me with the analytical tools necessary for professional success.

Beyond academics, the institute offered opportunities to cultivate essential soft skills. Participation in student committees and initiatives has enhanced my ability to collaborate, communicate effectively, and address complex problems. This experience has been invaluable in preparing me for the demands of a professional environment.

I’m grateful to be part of the deemed University Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. I chose to study MSC International Business Economics and Finance (IBEF), and I find it to be a really valuable program. Many students find it hard to understand the course structure and curriculum, but I’m happy to shed some light on it.  This course provides in-depth knowledge about international trade, as well as real-world trading strategies both domestically and internationally. This course helps us to specialize in Financial Derivatives and Financial Econometrics, which are linked to Trade policy. This helps us understand how to quantify volatility in the global financial markets.  IBEF also provides a detailed understanding of international financial markets, trade in commodities, and the Indian financial markets and trade.  We’re taught by prominent professors who are specialized in these fields and focus on imparting practical knowledge using data analytics tools like R studio, Python, and Tableau.  The course is cutting-edge and incorporates Machine Learning and AI in Business Analytics, giving us a practical approach to applying our knowledge.  I strongly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in Trade and Finance and wants to learn more about the international and Indian trading systems.
